Phantom to Tour New Production!

'Phantom' to tour in new production - Entertainment News, Top News, Media - Variety

The hot news in the Phantom world came out today via Variety that a new production of The Phantom of the Opera worldwide tour is in the works for 2012.

Already, musings have begun in the lair.  Phans are excited.  Phans are worried.  I'm curious and anxious to see what the masterminds Prince and Mackintosh have in store. Word is there will be new costumes, new sets, and rescaled production.  (Read the Variety link above.)

We just need to sit back and see what they have in store.  Can't wait to find out who the cast will be and what talents will bring us into the Music of the Night once again.  Costume changes will be interesting, however, perhaps they are needed.  The originally designed costumes by Maria Björnson were very expensive, and no doubt very expensive to maintain. Piangi's cape that he wears when he climbs on that elephant weighs 70 pounds! Christine's wedding dress weighs 40! Maybe they need to lighten up. As far as set redesign, that will be interesting as well.

Some of these anticipated changes will probably save money.  Perhaps ticket prices will come down and more people will be able to see the stage version when they've never seen it before. There are new generations being introduced to the Phantom of the Opera each decade. I for one am glad they are continuing it after all these years for more generations to continue to enjoy, no matter what the revised version may turn out to be.

Change happens. Sometimes change must happen for things to stay alive. Let's hope for the best and not assume disaster beyond our wildest imaginations will occur.

The NEW CD !

Hey gang!

The new CD is almost complete!  Jeremy just finished the Mastering yesterday and we're getting into production ASAP.  Jeremy did some amazing work on it and I'm hoping that you'll like it.

The content has an interesting twist to it.  I've spoken about it at some of my recent concerts.  As soon as the key artwork is complete we'll be making a big announcement to launch it.

Keep your eyes peeled!

It's Alive!

I wandered over to BlogTalkRadio a few days ago and noticed that we just rolled over 22,500 downloads on our former internet radio show that stopped broadcasting last Spring.  With only 30 shows under our belt, the fact this show keeps going sort of reminds me of Frankenstein...hence my scream..."it's alive!"  (And some thought we wouldn't last - LOL)

Teresa Stout and I had a great time doing the show, and even though we've had requests to bring it back, I'm not quite ready to go down that path.  However, if you're new to this blog and have never listened to our archived shows, pop on over.  We've got some good ones that include:
  1. Interview with various Phantom authors.
  2. Interviews with the Vegas Phantom of the Opera principle cast members, that include the Phantom, Raoul, Christine, and Meg.
  3. Special appearances by The Phantom Reviewer, Ladyghost, and Requiem Mask.
  4. Byron Nease, the singer/actor who played Raoul for ten years in the Toronto production.
  5. Miscellaneous phantom fans with their obsessions.
So, check them out!  I may plan on doing a rebroadcast in May after my return from seeing the revised Love Never Dies production.  If I do, I'll let you know if we go live again.

Cheers from the lair,

Winners!

Holy Anagrams Batman that was fun!

We announce the winers today and I have to say first that we were blown away by the number of responses to both questions.

You guys are awesome!

Many of you got the correct answers but we had to pick our winners by who was the first person to post the correct answer and so here they are:

Kristin M. was the first person to guess that the Coachman's name was "Tom" so congratulations Kristin!

Now for the Anagram:

The Rising of Wealthy Cervus Canadensis

Please note the order in which the clue words are written.

We are actually going to choose two winners and here's why.  The Anagram below actually eludes to the genus of a group of Deer (in this case Elk, plural, more than one Elk).

It would be like saying "The Rising of Wealthy Man." "Man" referring to Mankind (many people).

However, some people might say that Mankind as a group is singular so...we've chosen two winners.

Joshua F. was the first to guess the correct answer in the correct order: "Ascend Rich Elks"

And

Ilene was the first to guess the singular form "Ascend Rich Elk."

So Congratulations to you all!

We're gearing up for another fun contest so keep your eyes peeled!

For the three winners please send where you would like your prizes mailed to news@jamesbarbour.com and we'll get your prizes out to you ASAP.

Thanks again to everyone for playing!

See you at Birdland.

Winners Tomorrow

Winners will be announced tomorrow!  Very excited about this and I hope you guys are too.

We've been rehearsing for the Sunday night Birdland show (and we've got another private event on Saturday night) so my days have been filled with music.

And that little addition to Sunday's show looks like it's coming to fruition and I'm looking forward to it with anticipation.  Musically it's a cool thing.

Get those tickets to Birdland NOW - don't wait until you get there as there might not be many left.
